Hillside welcomes DAR

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Hillside School celebrated its enduring relationship with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) with its annual DAR Day event on May 13.

The day’s festivities began with student-led tours of the Hillside School campus for DAR members representing local chapters and the national office of this patriotic organization.

The Hillside tour guides took their DAR visitors through the school’s new Academic & Health Center, the Messman-Saran Library, the Hillside School Farm and other campus facilities.

The DAR members then joined with other members of the Hillside community for a school-wide awards assembly in the Tracy Gym. At the assembly, students received DAR honors recognizing them for civic and academic achievements.

In addition, Hillside took the opportunity to express its appreciation for DAR support. “We thank you for your continued commitment to Hillside and our mission of educating and shaping the lives of young men,” stated Hillside School Headmaster David Z. Beecher.

A highlight of the awards presentation was a good-natured history quiz between the DAR representatives and Art Goodearl, Hillside’s associate headmaster and resident expert in American history.

The May 13 event concluded with a community luncheon enjoyed by both the Hillside community and the DAR membership.
