An invitation to parents and educators
Friday, March 05, 2010
The Hillside School Parent and Family Association (HPFA) is pleased to announce the Wednesday, April 21 presentation of "Recapturing the Joy in Learning," a free workshop for parents and educators.
Rescheduled from its original February 10 presentation, the April 21 workshop features celebrated educational consultant Kirsten Olson and will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in Hillside School's Student Center Dining Room. The evening begins with coffee and conversation from 6:00 to 6:30 pm, followed by the workshop program.
Through this interactive workshop, guests will learn proven methods in advocating for children and students; how learning experiences relate to current education trends; and hear stories from students who struggled in school and their healing process.
In addition, the workshop will feature opportunities for attendees to reflect and comment on their own personal academic experiences.
Ms. Olson has long been an advocate for reconfiguring school culture to better support all learners, as well as addressing learning disengagement and reluctance.
Her background includes experience as a visiting assistant professor at Wheaton College in Norton, MA; consultant to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Kennedy School at Harvard University and many large public school systems and charter schools. She is a regular contributor to leading publications in the teaching field including Education Week, Educational Leadership and Teacher Magazine.
While admission to the February 10 workshop is free, pre-registration is required. To register, please email Susan Chase at tacking@gmail.com. Registration deadline is Monday, February 8, 2010.
Hillside School is located at 404 Robin Hill Road in Marlborough, MA. Directions to Hillside are available by clicking here.
