On February 2, the Wrestling Bulldogs realized considerable success in a match where we hosted Roxbury Latin School. The Hillsider wrestlers showed no fear and took to the mat full of confidence. January 29 versus Fessenden; Saturday, January 30 in Fay Tournament
This last weekend of the month turned out to be a banner one for your grappling Bulldogs. Weeks of practice are starting to show as moves are crisper, confidence is higher, and aggressive effort is prevalent.
On January 29, the always tough Fessenden Squad arrived to battle in the Hillside Multi-Purpose Room. In perhaps one of the best meets of the season for the team so far, Hillside stood toe to toe with Fessenden and held ground. The Bulldog Varsity squad defined themselves as a very tough core group, posting four pins and a technical fall on the way to nine quality wins. The team continued to show improvement and toughness with only four losses by pin, the fewest of the season.
Wins were posted by Chris Coughlin ’11, Tomas Alvarez ’10, Hunter Cochran ’11, Justin Karas ’11, Salvador Villalobos ’11, Seung Hyun Kim ’11, Ho Bin Kim ’12, and Edward Kim ’11. The Guts award goes to Jonathan Woo ’13 for not getting pinned while wrestling a tough match.
Saturday saw the younger Bulldogs attend the Fay Tournament. The team members were impressive to watch in terms of their support for each other. At the end of the day, all the coaches voted unaminously to award Hillside the sportsmanship award for their constant and continued positive spirit and helpful nature.
Other Highlights included great matches from Nolan Foster ’13, Sam Bristol ’12, and Nick Goguen ’13. Miles Klotz ’14 and Chris Holt ’12 earned great wins. Ho Bin Kim ’12 earned the championship in his bracket!
January 27 versus Bancroft and Park
The Wrestling team had its best match of the year on January 27, taking on Bancroft and Park in a tri-meet at home. With nine pins and a technical fall, the Bulldogs surpassed 60 points en route to a great victory.
