On Wednesday January 21st, Hillside's Varsity hockey team played host to Cardigan Mountain School, a fellow junior boarding school and strong hockey competitor. The visitors were eager to avenge last year's defeat, but Ryan Lovett put Hillside on the board first, and both teams continued to battle hard throughout the rest of the period. The game went back and forth with some strong offensive forays and tough D, but in the end, Hillside's additional goals from Patrick Robles (1) and Andranik Armstrong (2), plus strong goaltending from Carson McKinnon, led to a 4-0 victory. The Tracy Gym rocked throughout the weekend of December 12-13, as Hillside celebrated the 25th Anniversary of its Holiday Basketball Tournament. The Varsity and JV both entered teams in four-team fields and there were several tributes to the 25th anniversary of the tournament, including founder Brian Pare throwing the ceremonial tip-off in the Varsity Championship game. The Hillside Varsity defeated St. John's handily in the first round, then roared back from a 24-point second-half deficit to edge rival Rectory and their three players 6'7" and above by a 61-57 score. The overflowing crowd in Tracy Gym, including many Hillside alumni, stuck with the Bulldogs even when they were way down, and the players used three-point shooting and defense as catalysts for one of the biggest comebacks in the program's long history.
