The strength of a tree comes from its roots. Each root acts independently, gathering resources for
the tree far from its base. They are tied in to complex root systems that, while they are all working
separately, simultaneously support the tree. A strong, healthy root system creates a tree’s foundation.
It allows a tree to continue to grow through periods of draught, wind and water.
If Hillside is the tree - donors to the
Annual Fund are its roots.
Making up approximately 10% of the school’s annual operating budget, the Annual Fund helps to bridge
the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each student. Among other things, the Annual
Fund enables Hillside to provide small classes, a dedicated, top-notch faculty and academic and athletic
programs that challenge and nurture each boy.
A cadre of staff and volunteers will work once again this year toward increasing support for the Annual Fund. This will require the support of the entire Hillside community. It is truly a collective endeavor. One person or family cannot sustain Hillside any more than one root can for a tree. The adage that there is strength
in numbers is true.
If you’ve never contributed to the Annual Fund before, please do consider a gift this year. If you’ve
given in the past, please think about increasing your gift. Visit the Online Giving page to make a gift. You can also make a gift via cash, check, MasterCard or Visa, as well as a transfer of securities.
The benefits derived from Annual Fund gifts are tangible and make an immediate impact. It is an
investment in the students, who represent, of course, the flowers and fruit of the tree.
