This past Friday, the Bulldogs would suffer their second loss of the season; and a heartbreaker it was. In typical fashion, the Bulldogs struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The ensuing innings brought on great pitching and fine defense. Hillside, however, was able to manufacture runs in both the third and forth innings and led, 4-1, into the fifth. At the plate, Noah Strawn ’14, Matt Gray ’14, Luke Benoit ’13, Jack Harlan '12, and Jake Choi '12 added timely hits for the Bulldogs. Unfortunately, Rectory scored three times in the top of the fifth to tie the score, 4-4. Luke Benoit ’13, threw a solid five innings for the Bulldogs while Matt Gray ’14 did a fine job in relief.
Tied at four, both teams battled but neither team saw a runner cross the plate in either the sixth or the seventh inning. This game was to be decided in extra innings. Although it appeared Hillside held the advantage on the day and never trailed throughout the contest, the Baseball Gods had a very different storyline in mind. For as it went, Rectory would loaded the bases in the extra frame and score on a sacrifice fly and a base hit. Although the Bulldogs lost a hard fought game, they knew they would get one more crack at Rectory in the weeks to come.
