iLab Explorers Summer Camp

Hillside's state of the art Innovation Center (iLab) provides an interactive environment where campers can see and feel their ideas materialize in front of them. An open invitation for ideation and creation, campers will learn and be exposed to various STEM activities such as robotics, 3-D printing, laser cutting, and technological problem solving skills to broaden their digital knowledge base.

The iLab Explorers Summer Camp is an overnight experience that introduces campers to the exciting world of innovation, technology, and hands-on experimentation through interactive workshops and activities. The iLab Explorers Camp is perfect for campers who want to spend extra time on a favorite activity build skills in something new. Campers are able to explore new interests, learn new skills, and develop hobbies and enthusiasms in a positive and safe environment. The Innovation Center encourages camper to collaborate and generate ideas together as well as working collaboratively.

Campers will be engaged in the Innovation Center all morning participating in various STEM Activities and then spend the afternoon participating in traditional camp activities (games, sports, swimming etc.) In the evening there will be an optional study hall session for campers who want extra time to work on projects, review concepts that were learned during the day, or engage in quiet study or reading. There will also be opportunities for some on campus fun such as movie nights, karaoke etc.

iLab Explorers Summer Camp Sample Schedule

Day 1

Day 1: Welcome to iLab Explorers

Morning:

Introduction to iLAb and overview of the week's activities.
Icebreaker activities to help campers get to know each other.

Afternoon:

Tour of the iLab facility, including demonstrations of various technology and innovation projects.
Introduction to basic safety protocols and guidelines for working in the lab.

Sports:

Outdoor team-building games to promote collaboration and physical activity.

Day 2

Day 2: Robotics and Programming

Morning:

Workshop on robotics basics: introduction to robot components, sensors, and programming concepts.
Hands-on activity: Campers build and program simple robots using LEGO Mindstorms or similar kits.

Afternoon:

Group challenge: Robot obstacle course competition.
Discussion on real-world applications of robotics and careers in robotics engineering.

Sports:

Soccer or other outdoor sports activity.

Night Study Hall:

Optional study hall session for campers who want extra time to work on projects, review concepts learned during the day, or engage in quiet study or reading.

Day 3

Day 3: 3D Printing and Prototyping

Morning:

Introduction to 3D printing technology: how it works, types of 3D printers, and materials.
Design workshop: Campers learn basic CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to create their own 3D models.

Afternoon:

Hands-on 3D printing activity: Campers print their designs using 3D printers.
Discussion on rapid prototyping, product design, and innovation in manufacturing.

Sports:

Basketball or other indoor sports activity.

Day 4

Day 4: Electronics and Circuits

Morning:

Workshop on electronics fundamentals: introduction to circuits, components (resistors, capacitors, LEDs, etc.), and circuit design.
Hands-on soldering activity: Campers learn basic soldering techniques and assemble simple electronic circuits.

Afternoon:

Group project: Design and build a basic electronic gadget or game using the skills learned.
Discussion on the importance of electronics in modern technology and entrepreneurship.

Sports:

Tennis or Swimming or other recreational activity

Night Study Hall:

Optional study hall session for campers who want extra time to work on projects, review concepts learned during the day, or engage in quiet study or reading.
